One Room Challenge: The Shed -Week Two

Ok, so I started week two of the ORC with high hopes. You can check out my Week One post here and the great link up party here, btw.

First, I moved everything out of the shed and onto the mangy mess I call a lawn, and I cleaned the interior of the shed from top to bottom.

Then, I added some 4x4 studs to create more shallow shelves for displaying small items.

Everything was going to plan until I picked a color and started painting.

You see, no one I've consulted seems to like this color, including me. This was a tough realization after I'd put in two days of painting (it is super slow going because it all has to be done with a brush).

My two go-to people for color consult came up with these observations: "It looks really Holly Hobby Mom" (yes, my son has a preternatural knack for color -since he was like four) and "It looks really Ralph Laureny" -like in a bad way. I kind of knew it was wrong right from the start but as the saying goes  -denial is a river in Africa.

I was so bummed that I took the day off today to contemplate a new color....Black, well some sort of blackish thing.
I like this black wall, although it does look like it has a little purple (which I don't want) in it. Image from Abigail Ahern's Pinterest.

This is good too but is more gray than black and has bluish tones...tricky.

Basically I need to dump some cash into some sample quarts and make a more informed decision than my last one.

Any thoughts? Black, gray or neither?

I actually like the blue!! I think its a deep, rich shade, but you need to be happy with it, as you live there! I like a dark, smoky gray. Whatever you decide, it will look great, as it's an amazing space :)

I think the blue is nice too. I understand why you want to change it though. I like the idea of a dull matte black with slate undertones. I think i'd fit your aesthetic more. But the blue doesn't look bad my dear!

I agree with the other ladies. The blue doesn't look bad. But a slatish-black would look great too. Feeling your pain. Selecting the right paint shade is so much more difficult than people admit.

I could not figure out why you titled it 'fail'. I like it. If you are going to change, I would say gray. Luckily, it will cover over the blue easily.....famous last words. I want this shed.

I know how you feel! It does look okay, but you know when it's just not what you want. I have a really hard time picking paint colors, which is why most of my home is the same shade of white. Good luck with your test tubs!

I think the blue photographs better than it looks in person. Yes, that elusive black/blue/gray is what I need!

Thanks Traci. It's strange that I don't care for the blue because I generally love deep blue rooms and like half of my wardrobe is navy! I think it's all the texture on the walls that is throwing things. _Caitlin

Tell me about it! I admit that I sometimes have a complete crisis in confidence when it comes to getting the perfect color. -Caitlin

I was thinking the same thing on the coverage. Dark on dark should make the job go faster. Looking forward to nailing down the color, it's driving me a a little nuts! -Caitlin

Ha! So is mine :)

The navy is super cool in that shed Caitlin! but of course I'm biased since I used it in my son's bedroom. A shed is a different monster all together, and I kinda like the black Idea more. Of course it depends too on the items your going to display there, I don't think there's a lot of white and bright gardening tools and such out there. Chalkboard black would look great there I think think. Good luck!

i do like the blue as well and maybe it looks a little much right now because its just a bare wall but once you put things on it it will not look as much . Does the shed gets a lot of natural light ? dont go to dark as you dont want it to look cozy but not to depressing to be in there either when in its nice and sunny out :) ....as for my sofa story was suppose to be deliver tomorrow they just wrote me to tell me sofa wont be ready until 10/18 ( not impress with restoration hardware client service right now ! maybe due to the fact that pregnancy complications baby is not growing so we are taking her out on the 25th bet you that when they going to want to deliver the sofa! ) anyway you need to have a ladies get together /glass of wine in that shed :) ~ !

oh I'm loving the sort of blackish thing! My friend was over last night and was trying to figure out if an almost black would work in her mudroom. I should her your blog post and I think she is sold. After my 3rd round at the paint store in the last two days I am completely hearing your pain on nailing down a paint color!

I'll say. The couch will definitely arrive on your due date. Ha. Take it easy for these next two weeks -you're probably nesting like crazy and trying to set up your home but really need to rest. Send me your email, I don't have it. -Caitlin
