Spring cannot be too far away in California. The plum trees are in full bloom in the city. I feel like these bloom earlier and earlier every year.
I got these flowering branches from the SF flower market on Saturday. My guess is that these come straight from the central valley. I initially thought they were cherry blossoms but am now thinking they are probably plum blossoms, which bloom earlier than cherries. I saw tons of plum blossoms for sale downtown last weekend for the Chinese New Year. They are a symbol of life and good fortune in the new year.
Beyond their symbolic meaning, I just love a tall branch arrangement like this, so simple yet so dramatic, and who can't use a little good fortune thrown in?
