Can These Lamps Be Something They're Not?

Specifically can these be pretty rather than ugly?

Because right now these bad boys are hideous, and why shouldn't they be. They came out of a dumpster from the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts. Somehow they made their way there from the Presidio. 

Plus they were made in prison by someone doing hard time in the 80's.(um...is this Federal Government synergy in action?) 

So, not necessarily a combo of elements leading to high style. But alas, hope springs eternal.

Time to strip them down and paint them yellow.

We'll see if they were worth the effort. Stay tuned....
