Quilts and Learning How to Read

Oliver got me this quilt a few years ago. It's made out of cotton voile, making it quite fragile really.  I've repaired it several times but now the edges are so frayed that I'm just hacking them off and finishing with a zig zag stitch.
Inelegant but it will do. I really love this quilt so I'm holding on to it for as long as possible.
I'm starting to work a bit with kit at home with sounding out cvc words. He reads the word and matches it to the picture.  He totally gets the concept of phonics but has difficulty motor-planning the articulation of the words. I'm going to introduce the "sh" blend next week and possible "oo" -I think he's ready.
I couldn't resist buying these yesterday. sneak peak at my prison lamp project in the background.
