One Room Challenge: The Shed -Week Six

I know, right?

Not to be immodest, but I'm pretty stoked at how this One Room Challenge shebang turned out.

The shed is now a bonafide work space. I created this space so that my son Ethan could study in here uninterrupted and Oliver could take work calls away from the noise of the house.

I tried to remain pretty minimal with the styling of the shed so that it looked homey and authentic without being overly fussy.

The two Ikea lights, the sheepskin, the picture frame, and the fabric for the Burberry pillow are the only items that I purchased for this project (other than materials -2 gallons of paint (one a flub), some desperation paint samples, and a 4x4 for extra shelves).

I moved some other furniture around in my house so that I could steal the leather chair from the top floor (where it was getting very little use). I also had a few threadbare carpets that were so ratty they were more Miss Havisham than boheme chic, that I managed to layered in there, each one covering up the holes of the other :)

The wood stove still needs a little tinkering, but I'll leave that to Ethan.

This project has been so satisfying. I never would have gotten this shed project to completion if I hadn't had the motivation of linking in every Thursday to Calling it Home. I also discovered many new bloggers to stalk, which I'm very excited about. So thank you Linda for dreaming up this escapade.

Just for fun, here are some before and after side-by-sides.

If you'd like to see the progression of this project, here are the links to the previous weeks. Week one, week two, week three, week four, week five.

You should also check out the other linkers here.

p.s If you are wondering what happened to all that crap in the shed, a lot of it went to goodwill and all the tools are currently in my garage. I plan to purchase a small tool shed (ok there's some irony) to go just to the right of the shed door in the yard.

This is covetable! I want a work shed like this. It would be a great mom cave, too, with a fire going, coffee pot, computer... I'd never come out. Love the leather chair corner and those plank walls vertically done. Fantastic

Amazing! I love how you had a vision and pulled this together using a big dose of elbow grease and furnishings you already had. I would never leave (and would get so much done) if I had a space like this in my backyard. Mission accomplished!

This is gorgeous. I don't know if I'd be able to resist claiming that space as my own. It's just the right amount of masculine without being overbearing. I hope they've both thanked you profusely!

Oh.My.Gosh. I am so in love with this space. It is without a doubt one of my favorites from the ORC, it's just amazing!!!!! The way you built the shelving into the shed wall, the furnishings, the stove - it's just lovely and looks like a magazine spread (and the mags will be calling you, no doubt!) I did a dark wall with wood and leather too, I absolutely love that combination, it's so cozy. Congratulations on pulling together this beautiful design. You are talented!

This is definitely one of my favorites from the ORC! I love every little thing you've done. It's always been a fantasy to have a little separate space that I could call all mine and I'm so happy to see someone else make that happen. You completely nailed this!!!

You should be totally stoked, it turned out amazing!! Everything looks very high end but unique. I love your style!

It looks gorgeous! Are the walls insulated?

C a i t l i n said...

No, but originally there were two concrete walls where the cedar paneling is (the shed is built right up against the retaining wall of the yard). There is a grid of 2x4s behind the panels for affixing the cedar. I did this before I started blogging but should and will do a post about that process. For sure, adding the panels made the room feel warmer but probably not in reality. It can get cold in there so we have the woodstove and a portable radiator.
