This year my aim was to decorate the house in a more minimal style than has been my usual. I relied on lots of greenery and sparsely styled little vignettes throughout the main living area.
I love a big dramatic floral arrangement. This is Ilex which will last a long time.
I would have loved to have styled this shot with a fire but we are in an epic "no burn" marathon in SF because of the high pressure zone that is parked over the West coast. No fires allowed because of poor air quality. It is so dry in the Bay Area it is freaky.
This year I decided to forgo the christmas village scene I usually do (I have a collection of about a dozen houses that I've collected with my boys over the years). Instead we set up a vintage Marklin train set that was a miraculous street find a few years back and which actually works.
Bay leaf arrangement with little bird.
Stockings are everybody's favorite opening item. We try to stuff them with interesting little items, soaps, etc. I made these out of felt.
One of my sisters made that hawaiian clothespin ornament when we were little. I have many vintage ornaments from my when I was a girl.
.
And there you have it. Cheers and have a wonderful holiday.

I love the warm, rustic feel of your space. It is so beautiful. And the train is great!!
Your home is so pretty with all that natural light and I love the organic, natural feel to your decor and holiday decor, too.
That floral arrangement is spectacular, and I love how natural and classic your holiday touches are. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. That train was SUCH A SCORE. -Caitlin
Thanks for hosting Jenny. It was fun hooking up :) - Caitlin
I have a southern exposure in the back of my house, which is great but you should see how faded my upholstery is! -Caitlin
I was so happy to see your home linked up at Evolution of Style, Caitlin…..I adore what you did for the ORC, still dreaming about a space like that for my very own! Your house with all the white and fresh greens looks so pretty for Christmas. I love that train set, so old school awesome, it brings me back to my childhood and my brothers playing all day on Christmas day with their new trains. Thanks for sharing your interesting and beautiful home, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
I love the different ways that you used greenery in your home - especially the holly in your kitchen and the small wreaths along your stairway. I'm also impressed with your stocking making skills - those are adorable. Happy holidays to you!!
I love your fresh take on minimal Christmas decor, Caitlin! It still looks so festive, and your arrangement in the kitchen is stunning! Opening our stockings is a big favorite at our home, too! Love your welcoming front door with the beautiful garland. Merry Christmas!
awe...thanks Lisa. Merry Christmas to you too.
Your understated decor is just perfect Caitlin! Love it all especially the wreaths down the stairs! Wish I could go minimal, but I'm just CRAZEEE with christmas! Happy new year!
Hi, I just stumbled across your blog and I love it! Could you tell me what type of plant that is, in the 4th photo? It's beautiful plant next to your bar. Thanks!
OY. I wish I could but I don't know. It is a bonsai though and a tough little thing. -Caitlin
